Student Raymond Lau Earns Top Paper Prize

Raymond Lau, a PhD candidate in the SESS Lab, earned first place in the international URSI student paper competition for 2023. The award was announced at the URSI GASS Conference, which was held in Sapporo, Japan from August 19 - 26, 2023. The International Union of Radio Science (URSI) holds the General Assembly and Scientific Symposium (GASS) conference every three years and the prestigious student paper competition receives submissions from dozens of student researchers around the world. Raymond's paper, co-authored by Nicolas Lee and Professor Sigrid Elschot, was titled Analysis of Electromagnetic Waves Generated From Simulated Hypervelocity Impact Plasmas for Spacecraft Threat Assessment.
